why indeed

a book about family. stories of the capital F's. F for functional, funky, frightened, fueding, fresh, fixed, found, and fucked. for me - timely. i'm about finished readin this one on my mom's recommend. while i wouldn't file this one under life-altering-must-have-on-bookeshelf, i do want a copy to lend out. if you have a family - with a capital F - check it out. it's inspiring and thought provoking without being preachy or problem solving.

(sorry, M4 pushed THE button)
.. the "Po" book. and have sat down with big bowl of soup and am finding it hard to put down, have already found a few treasures, and i LOVE the way the author writes. it's really resonating.

page 9, referring to the chick who survived being sucked into a whirlpool: "If life holds a treasure, it is not behind the gates of country clubs, or in the boardrooms of corporations, or in the classrooms of great universities. It is in the air we all breathe, in the experiences we all share. It is available to all humanity. There is nothing esoteric about it; unlocking that treasure does not require a special language, or any privilege at all. To do this is not godly; rather it is utterly human. It is for people like you, and me.."
That is so fresh. organic.

and further down the same page, "but (Doug) listened to her the way no guy ever had. No matter how deep her inquiries into life's riddles, he never once treated her like she was making a big deal out of nothing. He always went with her."
LOVE IT.

thanks for the heads-up: couldn't find the other books i was looking for: this one's obviously the one for the moment..
cheers

i left for work (first day of work) this morning early (at 6:00am) to drive up the mtn. aways and finish the book. it was a nice way to conclude a meditation. a nice way to start a morning. i don't call a book good based on the whole but the gems within - the one or two lines here and there that slap me in the face and kiss the sting away. so on that count - this was a really good one.
so glad you found a copy kiwi! i have to say - your frequent comments always make my day - but that fact that you picked up a book on the prompt of a gal far far away just makes me giddy! *oooh the influence i have mwaa-haha* WINK!

what the book left me with: hope on the days that seem tediously filled with my own humanness and that of others......Karen might say"Oh, that's what it's supposed to be about....."

Love in the human condition.....mk
